Upcoming Livestream Performance #6 - Blood Release Party - May 8, 2021

Confiriming her announcement during last week’s livestream for In Exile Deo, Juliana will be back at Q Division Studios on Saturday May 8, 2021 at 4pm EDT to perform songs from the new album Blood.

Writing on her official website:

This show will be a bit different than the previous ones in that I will not be performing a whole album start to finish. I will play a handful of songs from the "Blood" album, but I will also pick a selection of songs from my vast decades-spanning repertoire that all somehow touch on the idea of blood. ("Anemia" will be one of them.)

As ever, this is a pay what you want affair with donations accepted via julianahatfield.com

Upcoming Livestream Performance #3 - Only Everything (Solo Electric) - February 21, 2021

They come around so quickly, these livestreams.

Juliana, writing at her official site:

For this third installment I will perform, at Q Division Studios, my “Only Everything” album, start to finish, by myself with an electric guitar and a loop pedal, which will enable me to play some guitar solos over some looped chord progressions (trust me, it'll be fun). It will be broadcast via the Q Division YouTube channel .

The scheduled time is 4pm EST on February 21, 2021. That's the same time of day as before (9pm GMT, 10pm CET) but a different day of the week (it's a Sunday) just to keep us alert.

To help prepare for the show you can familiarise yourself with the majesty of the album with original press reviews and more on the Only Everything discography page:

The solo electric with loop pedal feel will bring back memories for those of us who attended Juliana's European shows in 2006. Check out Carsten and Lieve's excellent photos from back then:

John P. Strohm - The Van From Hell | Talkhouse

John P. Strohm, writing today for Talkhouse about "the 'demonic' 1970s Chevy cargo van that carried Blake Babies across America":

Juliana always drove, because she believed that she had a psychic connection with The Van and she could will it to stay on the road. We had a boom box that ran on batteries, but often we just rode in silence as Juliana looked straight ahead, jaw clenched, occasionally muttering insults to the van when it made its strange noises or if any indicator lights came on. The “check engine” light remained on pretty much always after we left New England.

Blake Babies "Innocence And Experience" 2019 Vinyl Reissue and T-shirts

American Laundromat Records, announcing a return of the fabulous 1993 Blake Babies compilation album:

We are beyond excited to reissue this fantastic Blake Babies collection on vinyl. It's always been a favorite and we worked with John, Freda and Juliana on every aspect of the reissue.

Our good friend and long-time collaborator Sean Glonek at SRG Studios handled remastering, and Carl Saff in Chicago cut metal. Vinyl was pressed by hand at Burlington Record Plant in Burlington, VT. The artwork has been recreated from the original Mammoth art but with a little twist thanks to the skill and creativity of award-winning designer, Aaron Tanner of Melodic Virtue. We also included the liner notes and photos from the original CD booklet as a newly-designed inner sleeve. We're very proud of this reissue and hope you enjoy it.

The scheduled release date is March 2019 and orders are being taken now at:

https://www.alr-music.com/collections/out-now/products/blake-babies-innocence-and-experience-vinyl-reissue

There are also t-shirts available at the same link. American Laundromat say:

The official Blake Babies T-Shirt design is from a drawing John Strohm did 20+ years ago. Our good friend Lonny Unitus, who is an amazing illustrator, recreated John's drawing for screenprinting purposes and added the Nicely, Nicely typography. It's an exclusive design and will only be available for a limited time.

Talkhouse | Best of 2018: The Voidz’ Virtue is Juliana Hatfield’s Favorite Album of the Year

Juliana, writing for Talkhouse about an album she loved this year:

The Voidz’ Virtue is a really fun album about serious things. It’s swimming in disillusionment and the shame of being alive. It’s like the sound of original sin—oh, how we have fucked this all up. It’s not only our own failings and weaknesses that are disappointing, but also our society’s dishonesty and corruption, into which we are sometimes drawn. Julian Casablancas sings “I’ve been bathing in the blood of our success” on ”Aliennation.” Elsewhere: “I want out of this world” (“Pink Ocean”), “I lost what’s mine” (“Qyurryus”), “What does it matter?” (“Pointlessness”), and “No one will care about this in ten years” (“All Wordz Are Made Up”).

Juliana Hatfield Announces New Album Weird and Shares First Single – American Laundromat Records

New album info time!

It's called Weird and is due for release on January 18, 2019.

Here's the first single - It's So Weird:

The new album by Juliana Hatfield featuring 11 brand new tracks. Available January 18, 2019 on CD, LP, CD, DL via www.alr-music.com

From American Laundromat Records blog post:

Freda Love Smith (Blake Babies, Sunshine Boys) and Todd Philips (Lemonheads, The Juliana Hatfield Three) each played drums on multiple songs while Hatfield played all of the other instruments (and some additional drums).

Album Bio:

Laura Fisher has written liner notes as an "Album Bio", which is effectively the first review. An excerpt:

Why wouldn’t you want to block out the world? Hatfield asks us. Outside the home are people who misread your facial expressions (“Staying In”), whose gestures of love feel like efforts to possess you (“It’s So Weird”), who drag you into a vortex of lies and gaslighting (“Paid to Lie”), and who have allowed every last shred of human experience to be commodified, from dignity, religion, and privacy to fake IDs and opioids (“Everything’s For Sale”). Outside the glowing orb of independence are other people’s demands, their power plays, their lies and misinterpretations. Who needs it?

The Safes - A Tribute To Juliana Hatfield Seven-Inch – American Laundromat Records

New covers of Juliana's Universal Heart-beat and I See You are now available to order.

American Laundromat Records:

Chicago's The Safes are thrilled to release a 2-song, 7” tribute to Juliana Hatfield; one of their favorite artists. The Safes tracked this single with the one and only Steve Albini and, to turn this up to 11, The Safes asked their friends Ted Ansani and Mike Zelenko of legendary power pop trio Material Issue to be the rhythm section for this recording. Give it listen. These songs are as good as songs get -- The Safes saw no reason in trying to improve upon perfection and just had fun rockin' these classics.

Exclusive pressing on red vinyl. Original artwork by Nicole Anguish at Daykamp Creative. Only 500 copies exist. All 45's include a digital download card.

Juliana:

I'm so tickled by The Safes' joyful, lovable versions of my two songs! I think they really captured the essence of what the songs were and still are trying to say which is that there is always hope to be had
